When can I take a pregnancy test?
You can take a pregnancy test on the first day of your missed period but testing too early can lead to false negatives so you should still have your pregnancy confirmed. At the Oxford Pregnancy Center we offer medical grade, urine pregnancy tests. In general, medical grade, urine pregnancy tests are more reliable than home pregnancy tests.
What does it mean if there is just a faint line on my pregnancy test?
If you're taking the test very early on in your pregnancy the line may be faint but it is still a positive test. Not all pregnancies progress through the very early stages. It's important to determine if you have a viable pregnancy. Contact Us to make an appointment for a medical grade, urine pregnancy test.
I think I'm about 8 weeks pregnant. How can I be sure?
You may have morning sickness, your breasts may be sore and your clothes may be getting a little tight. At 8 weeks pregnant, your baby is growing at a rate of a millimeter a day. It's important to schedule an ultrasound to determine if it is a viable pregnancy. Contact us to schedule a free ultrasound.
What is a viable pregnancy and how can that be determined?
Viability, in the context of pregnancy, refers to the likelihood that the pregnancy will progress and result in the birth of a live, healthy baby. An ultrasound can confirm whether the pregnancy is located inside the uterus, which is essential for a viable pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies, where the embryo implants outside the uterus, are not viable and pose serious health risks. One of the key indicators of viability is the presence of a fetal heartbeat. An ultrasound can detect and assess the fetal heartbeat, providing important information about the health and vitality of the developing baby.
Is it important to know how far along I am in my pregnancy?
An ultrasound helps determine the gestational age of the pregnancy by measuring the size of the baby. This information is crucial in determining what options are available to you.
I'm considering an abortion. Do I need an ultrasound?
An ultrasound is highly recommended, even if you’re considering abortion. In fact, without this vital scan, you won’t learn critical information such as viability and gestational age; this information can determine what options are available. An ultrasound at the Oxford Pregnancy Center is free of charge. Contact us to schedule a free ultrasound.
What is a "medical abortion"?
A medical abortion, also known as medication abortion or non-surgical abortion, occurs when drugs are used to bring about an abortion.
What is an over-the-counter abortion pill?
There isn’t an abortion pill that you can get over-the-counter. You need a prescription from a nurse or doctor to get abortion pills. Abortion pills and morning-after pills are different types of pills. Abortion pills end a pregnancy. The morning-after pill prevents pregnancy before it happens.
